Everyone lies. We all have done it, and we all know that other people do it too. No one likes being lied to, whether at work, school, at home, or anywhere. In most situations (maybe aside from flattery!), we would rather be able to detect a lie than continue our gullible interactions without a clue of the real truth.
Unfortunately, it is much more than just a bit beyond our social norms to hook up the people we may suspect of lying to a lie detector test! However, fortunately for all of us, there are ways to tell when someone is lying to you, without expensive equipment, and actually without them even knowing you are testing them. Human lie detection is a real possibility. Anyone can learn the secrets of detecting lies from truth. By looking for particular cues, which even the best of liars have been universally proven to demonstrate, we are able to pick up on dishonesty from others. The book Bust Liars teaches us to do just that. By using the methods outlined in the book, we can learn to tell when our significant other is lying, when a coworker may be lying, or when a friend is telling us a whopper!
The author of Bust Liars, Mark Adams, has honed lie detection methods through thirty years of employment in a certain agency which cannot be named. This book was pretty impressive, and gave some of the secrets he used to get the truth out in all those years he spent working in that agency.
While reading the book I was impressed with his knowledge and intuition, and realized many of the methods he teaches us are simple and even common sense! A lot of the time when I was reading I thought to myself, “Wow, that makes so much sense, why didn’t I think of that?” Simple things like eye contact and body language are obvious and easy signs to tell when someone is lying. Mark Adams not only highlights these methods, but also points out the more difficult to notice signs as well. For example, did you know that lying increases someone’s blood pressure? After reading this , I first thought, “well yeah, that makes sense, but how does that help me?” Well, after reading on I learned that a person with a sudden increase in blood pressure will get a red face! I now know what to look for. Brilliant! This book is filled with tons of these easy indicators.
Bust Liars teaches us to pick up on these subconscious cues that liars demonstrate. After learning to look for these things, I learned to catch a liar in no time! This has greatly improved not just my personal but also my professional life! My girlfriend and I no longer have trust issues, since I now know when she is lying. She immediately noticed, and I eventually agreed to let her read the book too. Now she knows when I am lying too! (I’m not so sure it was such a good idea to let her read it, lol!)
I have perused other books that claim to teach people to catch liars, but I wasn’t very impressed by them. Many of them were written by people who knew what they were talking about, but hadn’t put their own principles to use! The beauty of this book is that these methods are proven! Mr. Adams used these techniques throughout his career, for thirty years! The methods used in this book are the same as those used by law enforcement agencies and government agencies throughout the world! They are tried and true.
I’ll admit that I was skeptical about this book at first, but after reading it, I am now definitely glad I did. I’ve learned important skills that will forever change the way I deal with others, in a good way! Although, I really never had anything to lose—Bust Liars includes a 100% money-back guarantee.
